Wednesday was a pretty successful day in the hospital. The blood pressure medication has worked wonders. All but one or two pressures were right where they needed to be for today. The ones that were a little high actually did not happen until it was within an hour of the time I take my medication. My blood sugar has also calmed down a bit. They are controlling it with two different types of insulin. I take a long acting insulin in the morning and at night then after each meal I take short acting insulin if my blood sugar is higher than they like it to be. I really feel great and do not feel sick at all. They are also monitoring the baby boy two times a day. The first day I was having some mild contractions but they really think that was because I was dehydrated. I have had some sporadic contractions that have been really light but nothing worth getting too excited over.
The doctor did come in on Wednesday morning and allowed me to have wheelchair privilege so that i could leave the room. I was really excited about this since on Tuesday evening they told me I was not allowed to leave the room. After lunch Allison wheeled me around for a little bit. It was great just to get out of the room. I am very thankful to have such wonderful family. Allison stayed the night with me on Tuesday and Wednesday so that Phillip could go home and rest since he had to work Wednesday and Thursday. I know that she really missed seeing her jake a poo bu I am so thankful that she has stayed with me. It is so refreshing to know that I have family that will be staying with me at least every night. Most days they will be up here during the day but I can handle the days alone. They have brought me coloring books, crayons, books, puzzles and of course I have the computer to play on during the day also.
The worst part of Wednesday would have to be the food. My nutritionist was off for the day and the cafeteria staff just could not get it together. They did get breakfast right but it just went downhill from there. Right now I am on a strict gestational diabetes menu. When they bring your meals they will ask you what you would like for your next meal so that if you do not like the 2 choices they give you then you can request something different. Well at breakfast I did not like the choices for lunch so I had them bring me a grilled chicken breast with a salad. Well, I got the plate and it was also supposed to have tomato soup on it but for some reason it was missing. I called the nurse and told her about this and she had them bring it back up to me. I was also asleep when they had first brought in the tray so they didn't ask what I wanted for supper. When the lady brought back in the soup I asked what was for supper and she said meatloaf or turkey on wheat. Well, I am not trying the mystery meat in the meatloaf so I had ordered the turkey on wheat. They had also forgotten to send me a snack for after breakfast and after lunch. See on this diet I am supposed to eat 3 meals plus 3 snacks a day to keep the sugar levels under control. They later sent up some graham crackers for the snack which the nurse just laughed at when she brought them into my room. She said they keep those on the floor so she didn't know why they sent them up as a snack. Anyways I didn't eat them since Allison was so nice to take me to the cafeteria for my snack. Later around supper time Allison decided that she would take a shower. While she was taking her shower supper arrived. As I had said I was expecting a turkey sandwich. Well, I decided to open the tray before the nutrition team left the room and there was no turkey sandwich but the mystery meatloaf. It looked nasty so I immediately told them that they had made a mistake and I would really like the turkey. She told me it would take a while but she would get the turkey sandwich for me. In the mean time I began looking at the side items on the tray. They had given me a side salad, which was fine with me because they are really pretty good. They had also given me two bowls of turkey soup. Well the smell of that was very bad so by the time the turkey sandwich had arrived I had already made my mind up that I would just have Phillip pick me up some supper on his way in. They are allowing people to bring me food as long as it applies to my diet. I am so thankful for that. I did save the turkey sandwich for later and I was glad I did when I saw they brought a tuna fish sandwich for snack. Needless to say I at the turkey sandwich for the snack and the tuna fish was thrown away. Luckily the night nurse did tell me that the nutritionist that works with the gestational diabetes ladies is back on for tomorrow so the meals should be back to normal.
I also want to take time to thank everyone who has called or come by to see me. I am also very grateful for the prayers that I know so many of you are praying for me and the baby. We really appreciate the prayers and the happy thoughts.
